Minister for housing launches new rural housing website

Huw Lewis AM, Minister for Housing, Regeneration and Heritage will join nine Rural Housing Enablers (RHEs) in the village of Llanbedr on May 31 to launch their new website and to see first hand three rural housing schemes made possible by work done by the Enablers.

The website, part funded by the Welsh Government is being launched to provide information to anyone wanting to understand more about affordable homes in rural areas.

Arfon Hughes, RHE for Gwynedd said; “Getting a foot on the property ladder in rural areas is becoming increasingly difficult and people often don’t know where to turn for information. Our new website offers guidance and further links to people in rural communities interested in addressing their local need for affordable homes. All the RHEs in Wales are thankful to the Welsh Government for supporting this project.”

Susie Abson RHE for Powys added; “More communities are recognising that if there are no affordable homes in their communities, villages will see further decline with schools and other services closing. It is important to encourage young people to live and stay in rural communities as well as providing energy efficient homes for older people to downsize to, all this is part of the work RHEs do supporting vibrant, sustainable rural communities.”

The launch will incorporate visits to local housing initiatives in Llanbedr, Crickhowel and Bwlch.
