Green light for Castle Caereinion

Local needs affordable housing in rural communities Wales - Rural Housing Enabler - Powys Castle Caereinion community land trust CLT

Castle Caereinion Community Land Trust and Mid-Wales Housing have secured planning permission for a small development in the village of Castle Caereinion, near Welshpool. The Rural Housing Enabler introduced both parties to each other after the scheme came to a standstill. The enabler also assisted the Community Trust with setting up a register for people who are looking for a home in the village.

The Community Trust acts as a steering group and approved all plans before they were submitted to the Council. The Housing Association finances and organises the development and will manage the properties, once finished. The Community Trust and Housing Association have agreed an allocation policy which will favour people who have grown up in the village. Powys County Council made the site available as part of a larger private development.

Munro Associates designed the six houses, which will be constructed by local builders SJ Roberts Construction. The homes are marketed at intermediate rent levels.
